Hello Everyone!

It has already been a long week for the kids, but the hard part of Band Camp is over.  Day 3.  Phew!  This link will take you to a "private" Picasa site where I uploaded pictures taken throughout the day today. We'd like you to experience "a day in the life of band camp." (link removed)

Information about Saturday is now available.
The kids will need to be at school and ready for rehearsal by 12:00 p.m.  (This means they'll need to be at the school at least 10 minutes early to get their instruments, etc. and head to the rehearsal location.) Rehearsal will end at 1:30 with a "sneak preview" of the show at 1:30.  During this time, all family members are encouraged to attend. The kids will be dismissed at 2:00.  Now, the show isn't 30 minutes long, the extra time is allowed for the directors to work with the kids.  You can think of this as a "public rehearsal."

After rehearsal, all band members are invited to a pool party at Westmeade Swim Club. Admission is $2.  There is a full service Hut for food, so the kids may need a little extra snack money.  The pool is a private membership pool and there are life guards on duty. (The party is listed as the "Reeder Party" and scheduled 2-5.)  The party is optional and band members will need to make arrangements to get to and from the pool.

Dinner is being organized by sections this week.
Thursday (pancakes) Brass
Friday (sandwiches) Drumline
(We also have left over burgers and dogs for those who would prefer something different, not to mention PBJ.)

Please join us at our first Band Booster meeting Tuesday, August 5 at 6:30 in the main Rehearsal Hall.  This will be a good time to meet the Executive Board and learn more about the directors' vision for the program and ways to participate as a parent.

Have a good day!

Wow, we're half way there - only 3 more mornings to get the kids to band camp!  The kids did a full ensemble rehearsal last night and they sound fantastic!  If you have the opportunity to come in an hour before the kids leave for the day, you really should.  It is a real treat to see how hard they have been working.

Most of the paperwork is turned in and uniforms are being fitted.  I forgot what it was like to put on a uniform for the first time.  Tonight my youngest was being fitted for the first time and it was really special: his eyes were like saucers and he had a huge smile on his face.   First year parents, you might want to ask your child about their experience.  (They all have this expression the first time they put on their uniform, even if they don't admit it!)

For our new parents, Band Camp always ends with a performance, more of a "sneak preview" of the show.  The kids will be in rehearsal 12-2 PM, followed by pool party at the Westmeade Swim Club. We hope you will be able to join us Saturday! (Admission to the pool party is $2 plus food.)

Dinner is being organized by sections this week.
Wednesday (hot dogs and chips) Woodwinds
Thursday (pancakes) Brass
Friday (sandwiches) Drumline

There is still plenty to do before marching season begins.  Any help is welcome for any amount of time you can donate during the day or in the evenings. We need to work on props for the show, cleaning the concession stand to get it ready for football games, uniforms fitting and sewing, organizing, etc. If you can help, please come and someone should be there to point you in a direction. If you don't find another parent, check with a director.

Okay, this should really be a blog.

Band camp is off to a great start!  The kids jumped right in and started learning the show.  Practice will continue this week Monday through Friday 10 AM - 9 PM and Saturday 12 PM - 2 PM with a pool party following at the Westmeade Swim Club.  (Admission will be $2 plus food.)

For our new parents, Band Camp always ends with a performance, more of a "sneak preview" of the show.  We hope you will be able to join us Saturday.  (More information will follow.)

We still have students missing some forms from their information packet and/or physicals.  Please have this taken care of as soon as possible so your student will be able to participate.  We will have another nurse practitioner available at dinner time on Tuesday (tonight) for anyone who needs a physical. Cost is $25.

Here is a list of the items that the kids need this week:
> 1 case of bottled water
> black athletic shorts
> plain white t-shirts
> tennis shoes
> sunscreen
> hat
> sun glasses
> refillable water bottle
> mechanical pencils
> Sack lunch or snack

Dinner is being organized by sections this week.
Tuesday (hamburgers and chips) Pit
Wednesday (hot dogs and chips) Woodwinds
Thursday (pancakes) Brass
Friday (sandwiches) Drumline

Band Camp is the time for parents to really get a jump on the work we need to complete before marching season begins.

Finally, our Booster meetings.  Booster meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday of the month to coincide with the directors' other commitments.  Information about the next meeting will follow.

Have a good day!
