The Hillwood High School Band has a long standing and proud tradition that dates back to the school's founding in 1958.  Since that time, the Hillwood High School Band has maintained a reputation of excellence that has spanned nearly six-decades.  Past honors and achievements include numerous ratings of superior and excellent in marching band, concert band, and sight reading festivals,  1986 Scholastic A Winter Guard International Championship Winner, finalist participants at the Contest of Champions and the Music City Invitational. 

More recently the band was named Grand Champion and Class winner at the Highland Rim Invitational in 2006 and will receive a 2007 Tennessee Bandmaster's Association Sweepstakes award for superior ratings in marching, concert and sight-reading festivals.  The Hillwood High School Band is also an active component of the Bellevue-Nashville community, performing in several community events as well as the annual Bellevue Christmas Parade and the Nashville Gas Christmas Parade.
